What Is Ashes Jewellery? A Meaningful Way to Keep Someone Close

What Is Ashes Jewellery?

When someone we love is no longer with us, it's natural to want something tangible to hold onto. For many people, ashes jewellery offers a quiet, personal way to keep their memory close. Whether it's a necklace worn every day or a ring that brings comfort with every glance, memorial jewellery can become a meaningful reminder of a life that will always be part of yours.

So, what is ashes jewellery? It is jewellery that incorporates a small amount of cremation ashes as a way of carrying the memory of someone special every day. It can be a way to remember someone special, whether that is a loved one or a beloved pet. Each piece is deeply personal and created around an individual story.

Why Do People Choose Ashes Jewellery?

Grief looks different for everyone. For some, having a tangible piece of their loved one that they can still reach for, hold and touch helps them to navigate the times when everything feels heavy.

Some choose a piece of jewellery that they can wear every day; others choose pieces that they only wear on anniversaries or difficult days. Ultimately, it brings comfort and something meaningful to remember them by.

How is Ashes Jewellery Made?

The ashes are carefully infused into the jewellery during its creation. Only a very small amount is needed for this process. Each stage of creating the jewellery is carried out with care and respect. Every jeweller has their own approach to creating ashes jewellery, so it is important to choose someone whose work, values and process feel right for you.

What Jewellery Can Hold Ashes?

Ashes can be incorporated into many different styles of jewellery, depending on the approach used by the maker. From memorial rings and necklaces to bracelets and other keepsake pieces, the possibilities are incredibly personal.

Do I Need Lots of Ashes?

Only a very small amount is needed. I usually recommend sending around ¼ of a teaspoon, although the piece itself only requires a tiny amount. Any unused ashes are always returned to you along with the completed jewellery piece.

Every Memorial Is Personal

No two stories are ever the same. Each piece represents a different person, a different relationship and a different memory. For me, that means creating a completely bespoke piece of jewellery to honour the person you are remembering.

Why Choose Handmade Ashes Jewellery?

Handmade memorial jewellery offers something different from mass-produced keepsakes. Each piece is created individually, with time, care and attention given to the story behind it. For me, creating ashes jewellery is not just about making a piece of jewellery; it is about creating something meaningful that can become part of your everyday life.

Creating a Piece That’s Uniquely Yours

When it comes to a piece of memorial jewellery, it needs to represent all the things that are important to you and the person and memories you are honouring. As well as the ashes themselves, there are other details you can incorporate into your jewellery piece. Many include gemstones, whether it is inspired by favourite colours or birthstones. Symbols, initials and design elements also make the piece completely personal to you.

Creating a piece of memorial jewellery is a very personal journey, and I understand that choosing someone to create it is an important decision.

If you are considering ashes jewellery and would like to chat through your ideas, I would be honoured to help. There is never any pressure to decide straight away, and I’m always happy to answer questions and guide you through the options available.

Each piece is handmade with care, creating a lasting reminder of the person, memories and moments that mean so much.

Questions You May Have About Ashes Jewellery:

Can I have ashes from more than one person included?

Yes. I recommend sending a small amount of each in separate, clearly named containers. I can then use only what is needed from each and return any unused ashes to you with your finished jewellery piece.

Can pet ashes be used?

Yes, ashes jewellery can also be created to remember beloved pets. Many people choose memorial jewellery as a way of keeping the memory of a much-loved companion close.

Do I need to send all of the ashes?

Only a very small amount needs to be sent to me; the rest stay with you. I recommend around ¼ of a teaspoon.

Can memorial jewellery be made as a gift for someone else?

Absolutely, you can even choose to have a little card added to the gift with any words you would like to add to the recipient of the jewellery.

How do I send ashes safely?

If you can, I would add the ashes to a small secure screw-cap pot and then place it into a small zip-lock bag before boxing and sending. I understand that sending something so precious can feel daunting, so I always recommend using a secure, tracked service.
