The Ancient Art of Lost Wax Carving: Breathing History into Jewellery

For as long as I can remember, I’ve been enchanted by the way objects can hold stories, silent witnesses to lives long past. Whether it’s a Roman coin, a worn-down ring, or the intricate scroll of an old brooch, these pieces carry whispers of history in their every curve.

That quiet storytelling is what inspires so much of my work, and now, more than ever, I’m leaning into a technique that feels like stepping back in time: lost wax carving.

This method isn’t new, not by a long shot. In fact, it’s one of the oldest jewellery-making techniques in the world, dating back over 6,000 years. From the ancient Egyptians to the Mesopotamians, lost wax casting was used to create sacred amulets, royal regalia, and treasured heirlooms. The process is almost alchemical. A design is first carved into wax by hand. That wax form is then encased in a plaster-like material, which hardens around it. The wax is melted away—lost—and molten metal is poured into the space it once filled. The result? A one-of-a-kind, deeply personal piece of metal art.

It’s delicate, slow work. Meditative, too. And I adore it.

As someone who’s always had a deep love of history, using lost wax carving in my jewellery feels like a way of honouring the past while creating something meaningful for the present. Each carved piece I make is shaped with intention, there’s no rushing the process. You can see the evidence of the human hand in every line, every mark. That’s what makes these pieces feel so alive.

I’ve been quietly working away on a new series of designs using lost wax carving, pieces that feel as if they’ve been unearthed from history itself. Some are bold and sculptural, others soft and organic, like something you might discover in an ancient treasure trove and slip straight onto your finger. These special creations will be released in small, carefully curated drops, much like my Signature Collection.

Each one crafted with intention and completely one of a kind.
